On and on and on!

Since my day off after the race last week I have been go go go!  Between dates with friends and CG and wedding reception for wedding #8 I haven't had very much down time!
So once again I am planning to get into a habit of getting on here!  I guess if i had an audience it might make me write more!  But I am not ready for that quiet yet!  Honestly I don't really know how to go about even commenting on blogs I read.  I am such the stalker!  I am pretty much a completely shy person...in person and online i guess!  But once people know me they love me :]
So lets see what went down in the past week.  Date to Piada and Spoon me with Becky J.  Some day I will write an entire post of Piada.  Oh how I love it.  Tuesday was happy hour with JJB and D at McCormick's.  If you have a McCormick's in your area hit up the bar for happy hour!  Great menu!  Wednesday was my first day back to the gym.  Felt pretty good.  Thursday I did something I think but I am not sure what!  Friday I had a real date night with CG.  Pei Wei and we saw 50/50.  It was really good.  Except my allergies acting up in the theater!
Saturday was action packed from the time my feet hit the floor.  I had to get a gift for the wedding and run to the store then I had to make a tasty treat for the fall festival at CGs church.  I wasn't going to be able to make it on Sunday but I wanted to make sure my treat represented me well!  There was even a competition for best pumpkin dessert!  So after my treat was made I hit the sidewalk for a quick 2 mile run.  It felt so good.  Did them in 19:30.  Much quicker than some of my other runs and loved it.  After a quick shower and packing I was off to NWO(North West Ohio) for Ds reception.  3hrs later we were ready to party!  Needless to say it was a good time and many drinks were enjoyed!  Sunday we had lunch at Ds parents house before heading back to Cbus.  When I got back it was too late to catch any of the festival so I stuck around my place for the night. I then got a test from CGbrother saying I won the competition with my dessert!  I will link the recipe if I can figure that out.
So now Monday is almost done too!  I have plans to be at the gym for Iron and some needed cardio!  Right now I have some croutons baking in the oven...never tried making them before so I hope they work out.

3 meals for the week
3
Spaghetti with ground turkey in the sauce.  Need to get that meat used up!
2
Chicken in the crockpot.  I have no idea what kind of chicken though!
1
Montgomery Inn!  I have a Groupon to expire on Friday so i have demanded a date with CG.

Best Idea Ever

I went ahead and took today off of work because I knew I would be sore and tired from the half.  It was the best decision I have made in a long time!  I made a nice breakfast of eggs and toast and turkey bacon with some OJ.  And got to enjoy it with a healthy dose of Real Housewives!
The worst part of the 1/2 is how my feet felt afterwards.  The outside edge of them is super sore.  The first few steps are killer but then feel much better after I get moving.  Its so hard to put your feet on an ice pack.
So the rest of my day is totally action packed!
3 things for the rest of my day
3
Finish cable guys laundry.  He is super slammed with work and harvest and traveling for work and needed some jeasns cleaned and being the nice person I am said I would be happy to help on my day off!
2
Dinner with Becky.  Her bday was last week but we made plans to celebrate it today.  Either some Piada or Mexican.  Not sure yet but plenty of time to figure it out :]
1
Rest!  I might run to a store for some ribbon to change the decorations in my room.

2011 Columbus Half Marathon

Today was my 2nd half marathon.  Last year I ran this same race and I HATED it after mile 7 or 8.  I just couldn't push myself.  So this year, I trained differently and it was a  great decision.  Last year I did my training runs with friends but on race day I ended up being alone.  I couldn't keep up and then I had no one there with me the whole time to push me when I needed it.  So this year I did my long runs alone.  For me it works.  I did have the benefit of having my friend Melissa run with me.  It was touch and go as to if she was going to be able to due to a bum leg but she was a trooper.

The first 10k was a breeze.  I was well ahead of my time from last year and right on track for when I wanted to finish.  I knew around mile 9 I would get to see CG and it would be the perfect time to shed my long sleeves.  I had been cold in the morning and while it never got super hot out, I was roasting and it was affecting my running.  So got changed and back at it.  At this point Mel decided she needed to take a potty break.  Looking back I wish I would have kept trucking because I only had so much fuel in my tank and I didn't need to uses the pots.
Around mile 10.75 she stopped for more water and I kept pushing ahead. I turned up High and knew to except the only real hill of the course.  At this point is when I got a horrible sharp pain in my lower ab region.  Not a side stitch or cramp.  I honestly thought one of my organ was getting ready to explode!  I saw the bridge over 70/71 up ahead and gave myself permission to walk it then pick it back up.  That did the trick for awhile but my pace was taking a serious hit.  I knew I was so close to being done but I was in alot of pain.  While I had been walking Mel caught up with me and pulled me along til we got about .30 miles from the turn towards the finish.  At that point I got a rush of excitement and started pushing it.  I knew I had a chance to make my goal if I just kept pushing.  I turned onto Nationwide Blvd and was dodging people when the feeling hit me.
Don't look too close. RIP water bottle!

Yep that feeling.  Just like last year I got a horrible wave a nausea right where the course is fenced off and lined by nice people who really don't want vomit on them.  So while still running I took the cap off my beloved running water bottle and proceeded to fill it up with a warm mixture of gu and water.  After I was feeling better I booked it to the finish for a time of 2:28:21.  My goal was 2:28:49 so I was so happy.
I am glad Melissa was there with me to run the whole thing even though it probably didn't do her leg any good!  Considering I have spent the past 2 days with very upset stomach and slept about 4 or 5hrs last night up and down to the bathroom I was happy to beat 2:30.
Since I had pretty much removed everything from my system I ate on Saturday because 5am on Sunday I probably needed to have more food before running.  But it took all of me to swallow down my normal Clif bar.  Its just one of those things that happens.  While I am happy with my time I cant help but wonder how it would have gone if I had been feeling better.
Now my original plan was if I finished this race feeling good I would be signing up for the Flying Pig half but that is no longer the plan (sorry Mel!).  SWS, JK and Bard are all in to do the 4person relay at the Flying Pig.  After today I am super excited about this race.  I do much better at shorter races and I think doing it as a team is going to be so much fun!  SWS has agreed to do the worst hills part and I will take the longest long of 7.64miles.
I love this race because it was my first half but I have to question if I am built to do so long distance.  My feets are a mess and started to hurt around mile 7.  Now walking is a chore if i have been sitting for any amount of time.  Maybe I stick to the middle distance, 10ks, quarter marathons.
PS my photographer sucked!  He has had a long week and taking pics just didn't happen.  Of course I didn't tell him he had to but it just seems like the thing you do!

3 Things I have learned today
3
Leave early.  Super early!  With my tummy issues I kind of held us up and the exit was backed up super bad.  My sweet mom had texted me saying the exit by the Med center was clear so we hoped up there and took Neil south and only had a little wait in line.  We actually ditched the boys and took off walking before they got parked.  Made it to the start area to get in line to pee and they stared the race while we piddled.  But considering with the crowd size of 17,000 it was about 9mins off the clock before we crossed the start.
2
If you are having an upset tummy the day before, eat extra and eat bland.  I didn't do these things and I really needed the fuel.  This is one of those things you cant always plan for but just keep in mind.
1
Don't drink so much!  I got smart at the water stations and would fill up my bottle from cups there.  I then kept drinking and drinking and drinking.  I probably had almost 3 bottles full of water by the time I got to the finish.  And I upchucked about 2/3 of that bottle to fill it back! up!

Every day doesnt work

As much as I would like to be able to update every day, it just doesn't fit into my life as of right now.  So maybe starting with a couple of times a week would work best for me!  At this point I am the only one to read it then why not do what works best for me!
So lets see whats been going on.  Well if you would think i had been running this week in prep for the 1/2 on Sunday you are so sadly wrong.  I did make it to Iron and some AMT time twice this week so that was good. On my run days I just didn't have it in me and had better things to do...Like Mystery Murder Theater and a date night to Montgomery Inn.
I did have a really nice surprise on my desk when I got to work one morning.
Spermocytometer
Yeah lab humor is one of a kind.  That is a disposable sperm counting kit!  If you have never had the pleasure of analyzing a seman specimen...you haven't lived!  Working at a children's institution we don't do sperm counts but other people have interesting stories from adult hospitals.
I have spent some time this week baking up a small storm.  Made some sugar cookies from refrigerator dough.  Right now I have a loaf of wheat bread not to far from being done in the bread machine and just finished up some pumpkin steusel muffins.  Which would be good expect I used some silicon cups to cook them in and I think the last time I used them, they sat in soap water for some time and now the muffins taste like soap :[.  I even made a double batch and 1/2 of the cups hadn't been used before so they should be okay and CG can eat the soapy ones!

3 things to Sunday
3
clothes!  The weather is being unpredictable right now.  High of 66 but a chance of rain.  I have every desire to wear my yellow tank because it is the best one I own but the temperature will play a big part in that plan.  If too cold for take but okay for short sleeves I will wear my blue Nike pro shirt.  If too cold for that I just stay home and play dead!
2
Jams!  Setting my play list is super important and I am drawing a blank as to what to even download.  I will have to put on my thinking cap!
1
Food and H2O!  Clif bar and CL strawberry.  Running water bottle and give an extra bottle to CG to fill up from when I see him on the course.  Some Gu to keep me going.

Busy weekend

Quick catch up!

After a nice weekend out of town it is hard to get back into the swing.
Saturday morning I got up and moving to do a 6mile run.  It was a super nice day and by the time I was done it was quite warm.  Came home and got ready to get on the road to had to my grandma and grandpas.  My brother and his family were heading there too so it was nice to spend some time with all of them.
Now is when i should be talking about how great the Buckeyes played but yeah moving on.
On Sunday I headed back north and went to my friends son's 6th bday party.  Lots of yummy food and a good time!  Came home and started working on a puzzle!  I know I live an exciting life!
Today was back to work for me.  I might live in Columbus but we could care less about his day!
But when I got home i did have a nice little blue package waiting one me!

I work doing floorsets at AE and after 5 years I got to pick out a really nice gift.  The funny thing is I haven't ever been able to wear earrings until wedding number 7.  I wore earrings all night and felt fine!  So I wanted to try with a real pair and when I got to pick a gift I thought it would be a good time to try my ears out!

Workout summary
I was hoping to make Sunday nights when I do a workout summary for the week but that didn't happen last night.  I was pretty busy with my puzzle!

Get my iPod ready for Sunday!!!

Pepsi heavy

Rest day!
Today is a rest day for me.  I love rest days  especially after my crummy run yesterday.  I have big plans tonight of not a whole lot!  I already stopped and ran some errands and came up empty handed so arts and crafts time will not be happening tonight.  I have a huge desire to make something with this fabric I have.  But not sure exactly what to make.  I already have a wreath so maybe a swag?  Is that even the right term?
The fabric matches my living pretty well but what to do with it!
Pepsi heavy
The Pepsi vs Coke debate is very easy for me to answer.  PEPSI all the way.  And none of the diet crap.  Now truth is I rarely drink pop but when I do I want a fountain Pepsi heavy.  Best stuff ever.
Today was so nice out we decided to walk to KFC across from NCH and I was excited to fill up on some pop.  NCH has done away with all non diet pop so its kind of like we are being bad by getting the good stuff.  Well I got a large then refilled my cup to take back with me.  Needless to say I no have an upset tummy.  But so worth it :]

3 favorite drinks
3
Sweet tea.  In college we use to make a huge pitcher full every couple of days to share.  It was so good.  Now i just drink it all myself!
2
Hot tea or cocoa.  In the winter I enjoy nothing more than cuddling up in a blanket with a nice hot mug.
1
Fountain Pepsi heavy.  If you have crushed ice its even better!

How to have a bad run

Smelly kid
Last night I had a good gym session.  Easy cardio and my classes.  Just how a Wednesday should go!
So today I got up late (like always) and got ready for work.  About 3/4s through my work day it occurred to me that I never put on deodorant before work!  I don't think you could tell unless you put your nose way up in my pits....which is exactly what I made my work friends do.  I'm nice like that.

Bad run
So after work I have a 5mile run planned.  But for some reason Thursdays are the day that when i get home, I want to nap!  So I sat and watched some DVR and ate some frosted mini wheat's

sidebar....have you tried the frosted mini wheat's with fruit in the middle?!  Big fan.  And I don't even like frosted mini wheat's!

Yum!

Anywho...back to the run....So I finally got off the couch and got on the trail. Everything was okay until about 3.25miles in.  Oh boy.  It was a squeeze the cheeks together problem.  I had to walk then run then walk a little the rest of the way home.  Not the first time this has happened but it surprises me every time!

The rest of my night involves more DVR time and eating this frozen ravioli meal.  Doing laundry, clipping some coupons.  Pretty exciting stuff here!  Then do it again tomorrow night.

3 Worst things that can happen on  a run
3
Wild life.  Last Sunday about a 1/2mile into my 12miles I saw a snake slither across the trail.  I looked like a prancing elf trying to avoid it while still running.  The guy on the trail coming my way must have thought I was having a panic attack or something.  Also every time I see deer I am convinced they are going to come after me
2
Rain.  I like the little rain, light mist runs.  I'm talking about the 5miles out and complete downpour.
1
See above.  The worst thing ever.  I would rather pee my pants.

No More Ochocrapo

Fantasy football
My friend Bard is a huge fantasy football fan and demanded I join her brother's league this year.  I have no clue how much work it really was to have a team.  I feel bad for the real team owners!
Being the 100% loyal southern Ohio (south of 70 baby!) girl I am, I am a fan of the Bengals.  Not a rabid fan but enough to root for them and always again the Browns and the Steelers.

Dec 2009.  Freezing cold day!
So being the solid Bengals fan, I named my fantasy team "No more Ochocrapo" to celebrate the hot mess Ochocinco no longer being on the team.  I must confess that I didn't hate the player formerly known as Chad Johnson.  I actually find him quite entertaining.  But at the same time he needs to learn how to play football and care less about camera time.

No More Ochocrapo
So the draft day comes, and happens to be on the same day as wedding #7 in my time line.  Bard is in the wedding too so we try to get online while getting our hair did but it just didn't happen.  So autodraft was our only option.  Granted I have almost no clue about how to pick players so it wasn't all that bad for me.  Except one part...

Yeah that's right.  Autodraft has a sense of humor!  I let him play the first 3 weeks but after his ability to not get me any points I put his behind on the bench.  I will soon have to trade him for some better coverage during week 8 when right about my whole team has a bye week.

I am currently 2-2 and in 7th place.  Not great but not horrible since I am learning it as I go.  Sadly Bard is currently beating me...not ok.  Maybe I am a bit too competitive.

Fantasy life
I'm deep into my between work and gym DVR watching.  3rd show almost done!  Then time for abs and Iron.  With a short cardio session to get the blood flowing before the classes.  I have been going strong with my gym schedule for almost 2 weeks now and that excites me!

3 Key players on my fantasy football team
3
Bears defense.  They are holding up quite well and bringing me solid points each week.  Keepers.
2
Darren McFadden.  Around week 3 some other yahoo in my league tried to get me to trade him and Larry Fitzgerald for 3 no bodies who didn't even combine for the number of points I got from either of these guys. Yeah thanks but no thanks.
1
Matt Stafford.  He has been a solid QB so far.  I have Bradford sitting my bench to be my backup during Stafford's bye week.

Family dinner

Last night
It  took all I had to get myself to the gym.  Cable Guy stopped by after work and this time of the year I take any snip of time i can get!  So when he was still on my couch at 530 the idea of going to the iron class at 6 didn't appeal.  But the demon inside of my head lost the battle and I went to the gym just in time.  I am so glad I did.  Sticking to this plan is huge for me.  Bonus was CG was still on my couch using the internets when I got back and took me to dinner. :]

Family dinner
Another exciting day of work today.  Reports reports reports.  If you don't have the pleasure of using Microsoft office you are missing out on some real database potential!

After work I headed home, geared up and put in 4 miles.  It was my first run after the 12 the other day and At first I wasn't feeling it but each mile my legs seemed lighter and lighter!  Finished each mile quicker than the previous!  I was quite happy with how my legs were rebounding after the long run.  Hopefully this will bode good news for the half!

Quick shower and I was off for family dinner.  Family dinner doesn't actually involve any one I am actually related to.  Me and two ladies from work try to get together for dinner once a month.  Jessica had baby Cameron 7weeks ago so this was our first time with the little guy!  We had sushi and each took a turn at holding the monkey butt.  No really he had a monkey.  On his butt!

Aunt Bethy with Cam

The sushi was great but the service was HORRIBLE.

Yeah I know...another phone pick...sorry
Needless to say i am stuffed and my computer is not playing nicely tonight so I am going to log on off of here and catch up on some DVR.

3 shows on my DVR I need to watch
3
How I met your Mother.  I almost always watch it live and that's huge for me.  I watch nothing live.  So last night when CG and I went to dinner and didn't get back until after the show was over and he just HAD to watch the Sing Off.  Gag me with a spoon.
2
NCIS.  I actually have every new episode saved still.  I don't know why but I haven't been in the mood to watch any of them yet but I am starting to get the urge.
1
Hart of Dixie.  OMG love me some Rachel Bilson.  This show is great.  And you cant tell me otherwise.

Snappin some green beans

That 12 mile run I was talking about yesterday?!  Yeah finished!
10:59 avg pace is right where I want to be for the half.   Yes I know slow as crap but I went out slow to make it to the end!
Crappy iPhone pic because I didn't want to get off my couch and either turn on a light or get my real camera.  Story of my life!
So whats a girl to do after spending 2+hrs running....freeze some green beans!
I took these:
And turned it into this:

The Cable Guys gma suggested to blanch(sp?) the beans then freeze them.  And since I have no clue about freezing veggies I was happy for the help! Boil for 2mins, straight into cold water, then lay out to dry.  Hopefully it will work out but I do know already I needed to dry out the beans more so than I did.  But lets be honest...it was almost 10pm and I had run 12miles and 5am comes way early!
But 5am did come and I had a nice long day at work fighting with my computer.  Its the first Monday of the month which means I am slammed!  Reports must be pulled!
My night tonight will involve a nice trip to the gym for some light cardio and Iron class.  My weekly workout schedule current looks like this:

M-cardio+iron
T-run
W-cardio+iron
H-run
S-long run

I am trying very hard to stick to my plans and incorporate more strength training into my routine.
I don't have any plans to turn this blog(is it a blog if no one reads it?!) into a weight loss journey but that is a huge part of my life.  I am by no means a stick figure and never will be(and gladly so) but I see a lot in myself I would like to change.
In line with that...I have no idea what kind of blog this is!  I am into a million different things and I like the bits and pieces of different blog types.  So is there a such of thing as "everything" blog or "too lazy to pick one thing" blog.  Cause that would probably be a great description!

3 blogs I know I am not:
3
Food blog.  I am a boring person when it comes to food.  Going out I always get the same thing at places.  At home when I cook it comes too often from a box or it just is me throwing everything together.  Not riveting stuff here!
2
Help blog.  I always say I could never be a teacher because I don't know how to tell anyone to do something I just know how to do.  I am just not a good helper I guess.
1
Political blog.  Ug. Vomit.  I don't like politics.  I don't like voting.  I have never voted in a presidential election...and I have no plans to.  But that is for another entry....

Last long run

I am deep into training for my 2nd half marathon.  Deep like "I can smell the finish line" kind of deep.  Deep like in 2 weeks from right now I will be napping on my couch with my medal.
Today I am off to do my final long run.  I am heading out shortly to do 12.  The longest I have done this training time is 10.  The 10 was my best run all year....but that was almost a month ago.  I unfortunately haven't had the best past few weeks for running on the weekends!  But I still have confidence I can own the half marathon.
This training has been different in my training from last year that I have trained 100% alone.  I have tons of support and know others training too but all of my run have been alone.  And I have loved it.  I can concentrate on ME and not working on others pace or feeling like a slow slug when my friends leave me in their dust!  I know many people like to do groups but I am realizing running for me is an I sport!
Race day uniform?!

I am glad this is my last long one and after this I am going to concentrate on my workout plan...not just training plan.  Until its time to train for the Flying Pig that is!

3 must dos before a run
3
Drink a crystal lite wild strawberry energy.  I have no idea if it is just named energy or is suppose to give you energy or what but I have to drink it or I am out of sorts!
2
Eat a Clif bar.  Now truth is I am not eating one today because I had a nice carby lunch at the Cable Guys parents after church and I think I am okay.  I am taking some extra Gu along with me in case I need some more nutrients.  Lets hope for the best!
1
Take care of business.  #2 kind of business.  And sorry if that's not something you want to know about but its life!  I work with body fluids on a daily basis so a little poo humor is the norm for me!

Chage of plans

My big plans today involved getting up early to get a nice 12mile run in.  Lets be honest...I knew last night it wasnt going to happen.  The stress of getting it done before I needed to head other places just wasnt worth it when the chance of rain was greater today than it is tomorrow morning.  So I slept until 8am which is 3 extra hours of sleep for me!  And...WORTH it!  I know getting it done today would have been the smart move but sometimes you have to put things off.  Tomorrow will work just fine and be a good time to clear my head.  And it gives me a reason to not stay out too late tonight! Now I just need to decide when to run tomorrow....first thing in the morning or go to church and do it later in the afternoon.
Todays plans now involve a breakfast at home then some relaxing until I head to campus to meet up with others for the game against Mich State.  Hopefully I can make good choices when it comes to food and drinks!

3 concerns for tomorrow
3
When to run.  Do I go first thing in the morning, skip church, or do I wait until the afternoon when its not my normal long run time.  I seem to have a hard time running well at other times of the day, any distance at least.
2
Where to run.  Go to Worthington and run the Olentangy trail or to Mt Vernon and do the Kokosing Gap trail.  Both trails have been amazing for me this training time.  My last long run (10miles) was on the OT and I felt amazing.  This is probably also depend on where I stay tonight and how my night goes!
1
What shoes do I wear?!  I bought new shoes a few weeks ago and my 2 runs in them have not gone well at all.  But my old shoes have been feeling crappy for the past while.  So what to do.  I just need to get to the finish line in 2 weeks from tomorrow as best as possible.  Im starting to think going back to the old ones for it might be best.  Only 2 weeks more on them wont kill me.  Needless to say this is by far my biggest concern!
